High Performance (Platinum) Jointing Stones overcomes Superior’s Jointing Issues

Accurate Timber Products Pty Ltd was contacted by the Arakaria Division of Hyne Timber to help resolve the issues common with Jointing Stones.

Shay O’Brien – Production Supervisor – for the Superior Wood Mouldings site has tried nearly all Jointing Stones manufactured over the past 10 years. “Our business is very competitive and we have established ourselves by our high quality Hoop Pine mouldings” says Shay. “We are constantly striving for any competitive edge we can find, and to make a significant improvement to our jointing process is paramount.”

Over the last 10 years we have tried nearly every brand of jointing stone available. However, 4 years ago Andrew Honeyman from Accurate Timber Products came for a visit to discuss his products. This was our first introduction to their products.

The main point of discussion was the hard particles imbedded throughout the Jointing Stones. This was a common factor in all brands of stones. Some more common than others, but essentially it was thought to be part and parcel with Jointing Stones. Andrew assured us there was a Platinum Stone available which has a meticulous process of manufacturing ensuring the entire stone of a perfect consistency. He offered us to initially trial this stone on our Weinig Hydromat 22B.

Upon the very initial pre profiling of the stone, it surprised us how easily it was to shape and the micro grain consistency of the stone was different to anything we had used before. We used this on a profile requiring the jointing of 8 knives on a Weinig Hydro Cutterhead. To confirm the accuracy and quality of the jointed cutter was to see the finished product. The machinist needs less time bringing the knives to a perfect diameter, and the knife edge is improved dramatically.

Andrew has confirmed Hyne Superior has converted over to the Platinum stones for their Profiling requirements and recently they trialed the same grade of stone with a 280 grit combination for their straight jointers. The results have been equally as impressive as the profile stones.
